Abbas urges intervention of Mideast Quartet to 'halt Israeli assaults' on Palestinians

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday sent urgent letters to members of the Middle East Quartet – UN, US, Russia and EU - in which he urged them to intervene immediately to “halt Israeli assaults” on Palestinians.
In his letters, Abbas complained about Israeli “assaults” on the al-Aksa Mosque, house demolitions, assassinations, incursions, arrests and land confiscations.
Abbas stressed that the “State of Palestine was making a big effort to achieve calm." However, he cautioned, “The continuation of Israeli assaults will lead to the escalation of the cycle of violence, chaos, extremism and bloodletting.”
Abbas held the Israeli government responsible for the repercussions of its policies.
Abbas urged the international community to oblige Israel to halt all its “assaults.” He also called for backing the Palestinian bid to join international organizations and treaties. ‭‮ Click here to Reply, Reply to all, or Forward 3 deleted messages in this conversation.
