ACRI asks YouTube to repost flotilla satire video

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel on Monday criticized the decision made Friday by YouTube to remove a satirical video lampooning the Gaza flotilla, saying that as satire, the video should remain posted in spite of US copyright law violations noted by the site.
“Freedom of expression also applies to satire and parody, and these formats must be protected both online and offline,” ACRI said.
The video in question included a group of actors portraying members of the Free Gaza flotilla singing “We Con the World” to the tune of the 1985 charity fund-raising hit “We are the World.” In removing the video on Friday, YouTube posted a comment citing copyright infringement concerns from Warren Chappel Music Inc., which owns the rights to the song.
