ACRI: Knesset vote on NGO probe 'low point for democracy'

Hagai El-Ad, executive director of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), on Wednesday commented on the Knesset's rejection of two bills proposing to probe left-wing NGOs, saying "The vote is another low point for Israeli democracy."
"I take no pride in the fact that these political tribunals have apparently gone too far even for today's Knesset," El-Ad said in an official statement."The political struggle between the Likud and Yisrael Beitenu parties have taken an inexcusable toll on the elementary rules of a democratic system – in which it should be obvious that the Parliament would not investigate or interfere with legitimate activities of civil society bodies representing the full range of opinions and positions."
