Activists: Syrian forces clash with rebels near Turkey

BEIRUT - Syrian forces loyal toPresident Bashar Assad fought rebels on Friday near theborder with Turkey, activists said, the first clash since aUN-brokered ceasefire came into effect a day earlier.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights saidthe fighting occurred in the northwestern province of Idlib,close to the border with Turkey. The grassroots LocalCoordination Committees reported heavy gunfire in the village ofKherbet Joz, close to the Turkish frontier.
