Additional NIS 100 million in support to be provided for people with disabilities

A NIS 100 million addition to the budget for people with severe disabilities receiving government support has been approved by Welfare and Social Services Minister Haim Katz and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon.
The decision to raise the special services benefits for people with disabilities and the benefits for disabled children in need of extra assistance comes as a result of the recent increase in the minimum wage.
"The amendment is intended to make it easier for people with disabilities and their families, who are often required to purchase various services for the treatment of the person with the disability," stated Katz.
"This is an important, ethical, and moral addition with the goal of alleviating, even a little bit, the daily lives of people with disabilities and those who accompany them," added Kahlon. "We will continue to act to improve the situation of the disabled population, the Holocaust survivors, the weaker layers of society, and others who need assistance from the state.
According to the amendment, the benefits will be raised by NIS 150 – 285 a month, bringing the total to between NIS 3,072 – 5,046 a month.
Patients permanently connected to breathing devices will receive additional assistance, raising the total benefit to approximately NIS 6000 a month.
The amendment also addressed people with cognitive and mental disabilities in need of constant care.
