ADL condemns suicide bombing in Pakistan

The Anti-Defamation League on Monday condemned the horrific Easter Sunday terrorist attack in Pakistan.
Jamaat-e-Ahrar, a splinter faction of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing, which killed at least 68 people and wounded 300 more. A spokesman for Jamaat-e-Ahrar said Christians were the target.

Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO, issued the following statement:
“The cruelty and brutality of terrorism is evident wherever it occurs. The horrific terrorist attack on Easter Sunday in Lahore targeting Christians and children deserves special condemnation in a seeming never ending stream of terrorist events. This one because of when it happened and whom it targeted leaves one nearly speechless. It targeted Christians on a holy day and seems to have deliberately targeted children, of whom there were many among those murdered.”
“It reminds us that terrorism is a threat to all civilization and that nations must all stand together if we are to defeat it. And, while the mass killing of Christians on Easter Sunday is particularly pernicious, we should not lose sight of the fact that the greatest number of Islamic terrorist attacks are directed at  Muslims and often at their religious institutions and on religious holidays.”
“Whether in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East or North America, terrorism has no place in a civilized society and that good people need to stand up whenever innocents are slaughtered for no reason other than to spread violence and promote hatred.”
