ADL to PM: Don't let NGO bill damage freedom of expression

The Anti-Defamation League on Tuesday sent a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu expressing concern about a recent bill that would restrict donations to NGOs from foreign governments. The letter further called on the prime minister and the government to modify the bill so that it "protect[s] the precious freedom of expression, which is so deeply rooted in Israel's cherished democratic tradition."
"While there are valid concerns about foreign government support for non-governmental organizations that some believe take policies at odds with Israel's national security concerns," the letter began, "we are concerned the passage of these bills could negatively impact Israel's vibrant society and democratic traditions."
There are other ways, the letter continued, "to ensure full transparency of foreign government support for Israeli NGOs without jeopardizing Israel's freedom of speech and free expression."
