Afghan police say MP, top Karzai aide feared killed

KABUL - A senior aide to President Hamid Karzai and a member of the Afghan parliament appear to have been killed in an attack on Sunday by armed gunmen in a Kabul district near the country's parliament, the spokesman for Kabul's police chief said.
"The battle between gunmen and security forces is still going on," spokesman Hashmat Stanekzai said, adding that the attack began around 8.00 pm local time.
He gave the name of the member of parliament as Hashim Watanwal. The aide's name was Jan Mohammad Khan
The Head of the Criminal Investigations Unit at the Ministry of the Interior, Mohammad Zaher, had earlier told Reuters that two or three gunmen attacked the home of Jan Mohammad and that initial indications were that he had been killed.
