Afghanistan: Rockets hit US base at Bagram, killing two US troops

US and Afghan officials said a rare rocket attack on the main US base in Afghanistan on Sunday killed two US troops and wounded six Americans. US spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Christine Sidenstricker said four military personnel and two civilians were among the wounded. Bagram, which lies 40 kilometers northeast of Kabul, is surrounded by high mountains and long stretches of open desert from which militants could fire rockets on the base, but such attacks are relatively rare. Kabir Ahmad, Bagram's top government official, said two rockets were fired at the base early Sunday.
