AG asks court to nullify Nazareth election, order new one

Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein on Tuesday requested that the Nazareth District Court, sitting in its administrative capacity, nullify the October 2013 election results and order new elections.

Weinstein made his request after court decisions were expected to overturn the original results in favor of candidate Ali Salaam to crown Ramaaz Jarisi (who lost the election prior to the initial court intervention) as mayor.
The attorney-general said that irregularities at 11 poling stations went to the foundation of the election's legitimacy and required a completely new municipal election, particularly with a mere winning margin of between 7-9 votes.
