Outgoing Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was granted a license from the Iranian Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution (SCRS) to establish a private high-tech university in Tehran, the pan-Arabic daily Asharq Alawsat
reported on Sunday, quoting a conservative Iranian news site.
The university will specialize in high-tech fields such as nanotechnology, aerospace and nuclear engineering.
According to Asharq Alawsat
, the SCRC approved Ahmadinejad's request despite existing legislation that prohibits the establishment of new universities in the Iranian capital.
