Akim launches fundraising campaign with IKEA

The furniture megastore IKEA started a fundraising operation this week in partnership with the NGO Akim, which promotes the integration of people with mental disabilities in Israel, in order to help renovate and decorate a kindergarten for children with disabilities ahead of the upcoming school year.
The operation, which involves both branches of the store in Rishon Letzion and Netanya, consists of IKEA donating NIS 5 to the cause off of every meal purchased by customers at the store’s restaurant. In addition, out of the children of customers who purchased meals, some will be chosen to help with the renovation.
IKEA Israel CEO Shlomi Gabai said that the store has been “adopting” the NGO for close to a decade.
“This project is only a part of the overall activity for people with intellectual disabilities that the chain engages in,” he said in a statement, “We are happy also happy to include children in the project so they can help renovate the kindergarten and get practical experience of the values of giving and helping others.”
