Al-Azhar imam rejects initiative to pardon Mubarak

Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed el-Tayeb, the current Imam of Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo rejected a reported initiative of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef to pardon former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram reported Tuesday.
The imam refused to receive any Israeli party or recognize an advisory opinion on internal Egyptian affairs.
Al-Ahram said that he refused dialogue with any Israeli parties while the "Judaization of Jerusalem and attacks on Palestinian people continue."
Tayeb was appointed to be the imam of the Al-Azhar mosque by Mubarak in 2010 following the death of Muhammad Sayed Tantawi.
