Alleged Nazi death camp guard may be tried as a minor

Because Nazi death camp guard Samuel Kunz was still a minor when he allegedly participated in the murder of 430,000 Jews at the Belzec death camp, charges were filed against him in a youth court, a court spokesman said Thursday.
Spokesman Matthias Nordmeyer said if the judges decide to bring trial against the 88-year-old Kunz as an adolescent, a more lenient sentence could result.
Kunz allegedly served as a guard a the Belzec death camp from 1942 to 1943. Besides his participation in the 430,000 murders, he is also charged with murder over "personal excesses" in which he allegedly shot a total of 10 Jews.
