Archaeologists discover four pre-Incan tombs in Lima site

An archaeological site in the shadow of Peru's bustling capital has revealed yet another pre-Incan treasure, undisturbed Ischma culture tombs containing four corpses wrapped in woven reeds, archaeologists said on Thursday.

The remains of three adult women and one man, dating between 1000 and 1400 A.D., were discovered in the upper part of a pyramid at the centre of the Huaca Pucllana ceremonial site.

Archaeologist Luisa Martinez said the tombs had characteristics of the Ischma culture.

"We are standing before an archaeological tomb with characteristics of the Ischma culture that existed between the years 1000 and 1450 A.D. These are the first Ischma tombs discovered in the Huaca Pucllana," she said.
