Armenians thank Rivlin for marking genocide in Knesset

The leadership of the Armenian community thanked Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin on Monday for his discussion of the Armenian Genocide in the Knesset.
“Your honor showed nobility and morality,” Georgette Joaquin, the head of the Armenian Case Committee in Jerusalem wrote. “We hope that the Armenian Genocide will be recognized by Israel in your era.”
Rivlin responded: “It was my duty as a Jew and an Israeli to recognize other nations’ tragedies. Diplomatic considerations, important as they are, do not allow us to deny the other’s disasters.”
The Knesset discussed the Armenian Genocide earlier this month, and Rivlin said the “horror” would be marked every year.
