Explosion heard near Tehran was IRGC rocket exercise - IRNA

An explosion heard outside Karaj near Tehran which sparked speculation on social media on Wednesday morning, was caused by a rocket fired during a training exercise by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in the area, according to the Iranian IRNA site.

Earlier in the day, social media users had reported that a rocket had exploded in the sky over the city of Qods in the Tehran province of Iran. The reports had been dismissed by a local official, who told IRNA that the reports of a rocket were "a rumor and untrue."

The incident is the latest case of an unexplained explosion sparking confusion and then being explained as part of a IRGC or Iranian military drill.
