Ukraine calls on US to label Russia a state sponsor of terrorism

The Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has drafted a bill calling for the United States to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, the Rada's speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk announced on Monday.

A designation by the US will further isolate Russia from the rest of the world and allow for the strengthening of international sanctions against it, Stefanchuk wrote in a Facebook post, adding that "we have to separate terrorists from the civilized world by all possible means."

The Rada speaker, expressing hope of gaining further American support, urged the US Congress and House of Representatives to hold a vote on the recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
