Price of bread in Israel to rise by some 5% starting on Monday

The Price Control Committee at the Economy Ministry approved Sunday evening a rise of some 5% in the controlled price of bread starting Monday morning, according to Israeli media.

The price of standard (dark) bread pre-sliced and packaged will be NIS 8.30, rising from NIS 7.91.

Economy Minister Nir Barkat refused to sign the recommendation, according to a Ynet report. This led Abigail Weinkert, chairwoman of the Price Committee and also a representative of the Treasury, to approve the measure to update the price of bread.
