The polio virus was detected in an environmental sample taken during routine monitoring tests conducted in Israel's sewage, the Health Ministry announced on Thursday.
Additional tests from the Jerusalem area indicated transmission of this virus in the local population.
The ministry clarified that there have been no new cases of the virus.
