Ashkenazi denies knowledge of 2007 strike on Syria

Former IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi on Tuesday denied knowledge of Israel's 2007 bombing a nuclear reactor in Syria.
"I heard this morning on the radio and I read in the newspapers that the IDF bombed Syria in 2007. For the life of me, I have no idea what they're talking about," he said at the Calcalist conference on Tuesday.
The New Yorker published details of the raid on Monday. The article's author David Makovsky spoke to Army Radio about the strikes, saying Israel didn't want to "put Assad in a corner."
"If he can deny the existence of the reactor, he doesn't need to react," Makovsky explained.
