Ashkenazi: Quiet in North could change at any minute

IDF chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi on Tuesday warned that Israel should not be lulled to sleep by the relative quiet on the northern border, saying "the situation could change at any minute."
Ashkenazi, scheduled to step down from his post as IDF chief on February 14, said his goodbyes to the Northern Command on Tuesday, where he served as commander from 1998 to 2002.
"I learned my point-of-view from you when I began as a young platoon commander here," Ashkenazi said to officers including OC Northern Command Maj.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkot.
Ashkenazi said that he felt assured the Northern Command was in sure hands and was led by officers who understood their responsibility and were aware that the quiet on the northern front could change at any time.
