Ashkenazi: We cannot allow Gaza to become Iranian port

Israel has a natural right to check and prevent a flow of weapons into Gaza, IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi said Tuesday during a visit to the Kiryat Shmona hesder yeshiva.

"If someone is very troubled by the situation in the Gaza Strip and wants to transfer medical equipment, we will give them the honor of arriving at the Ashdod port. We will check the equipment and then allow it through if that is what is needed," Ashkenazi said during his first visit to the institution.

He continued by saying, "It is important that we stand by this right and do not allow Gaza to become an Iranian port."
