Ashton concerned over J'lem mufti arrest, W. Bank housing

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton expressed concern on Friday over events in east Jerusalem and the West Bank in the past week.
A press statement released by Ashton's spokesman said Ashton is "disturbed by recent events in east Jerusalem such as those that took place at Orthodox Easter, the unrest in the area of the Haram al Sharif/Temple Mount and the temporary detention of the Mufti of Jerusalem."
Ashton also expressed concern over plans to build 296 housing units in West Bank settlement Beit El, calling the plans "an obstacle to peace."
