The West seems to hold more confidence in al-Qaida than in Syria's government, Syrian President Bashar Assad told Der Spiegel
in an interview due to be published in full on Monday.
"It seems to me that the West is more confident in al-Qaida than me," Assad told the German weekly.
The Syrian president continued his criticism of Western reactions to the country's crisis by blasting the US and President Barack Obama, saying "The only thing he has is lies."
Assad described Russia to Der Spiegel
as "our real friends," adding that they "understand the reality here much better."
