Avraham Ahituv, Shin Bet head 1974-1980, passes away at 79

Avraham Ahituv, who served as the head of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) between the years 1974-1980, passed away on Wednesday. He was 79 years old. Ahituv joined the Shin Bet in 1949 and held several key positions in the agency. In 1961, Ahituv served as head of a branch of the Mossad - Israel's foreign intelligence service - outside the country. In 1974, he was appointed head of the Shin Bet, a position he held until his retirement in 1980 after 31 years of service.
