Avram Grant to stay on as West Ham manager

LONDON — West Ham said Avram Grant will stay on as manager of the struggling English Premier League team.
A statement released by the London club on Tuesday sid West Ham is committed to retaining the Israeli and has "identified potential transfer targets to give us the best possible chance of retaining Premier League status."
The Hammers are bottom of England's top division, having won just four matches this season. They have reached the semifinals of the League Cup, however, and hold a 2-1 lead over Birmingham from the first leg.
Sections of the British media said former Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill had been lined up to replace the 55-year-old Grant before his interest waned.
