Azeri FM calls for diplomacy to solve nuclear Iran issue

Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that the standoff between the West and Teheran over Iranian nuclear proliferation should be solved through negotiations and diplomacy, Iranian Press TV reported on Sunday.
"Any country seeking to develop peaceful nuclear energy has the right to do so, and Iran cooperates with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which deals with nuclear energy," was quoted as saying by Press TV.
According to the report, Mammadyarov also pointed to common interests shared by Azerbaijan and Iran.
"Iran is our closest neighbor, and we try to build cordial neighborly relations" he was quoted as saying.
"We use Iranian territory to get to Nakhchivan. We are bounded with a number of joint projects. The Iranian side is now building a railroad in Astara," he added.
