Baby dies in Jerusalem after being crushed by steel door

A one-and-a-half year old baby was killed when a steel door fell on him a stairwell of an apartment building in the Kiryat Yovel neighborhood of Jerusalem on Tuesday.

According to an initial police investigation, a couple living in the first floor apartment of the building had changed their door months ago and left the old door in the stairwell. On Tuesday, the baby's mother had taken him out of the stroller in order lock it to the banister, when the baby approached the steel "Pladelet" door and shifted it, causing it to fall on him.

Magen David Adom paramedics arrived on the scene and found the baby in critical condition. They tried to perform CPR and took the baby to Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital, where he died of his injuries soon after arriving.

The couple from the first floor apartment was taken for questioning by police.
