Baby girl dies during home childbirth

A baby girl intentionally delivered at home was taken dead to Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem late Thursday night. The incident was reported to Israel Police and the Health Ministry, which reiterated its position that it was important to give birth in the protected environment of a hospital.

“We don’t know yet if it was possible to save the baby, but from our experience of delivering babies in natural childbirth, it is always possible to give emergency treatment,” the spokeswoman said. “Every day, the experienced midwives in our hospitals carry out natural childbirth for those who prefer it, with medical supervision at arm’s reach.”

Meanwhile, a 15-month-old baby girl who was taken to Hadassah University Medical Center two weeks ago after drowning in a bathtub at home died on Friday, despite doctors’ heroic efforts to save her in the pediatric intensive care unit. The hospital expressed its condolences to the family.
