Bahrain plans to restart talks with Iran to import natural gas, the Persian Gulf nation's oil and gas minister was quoted as saying Wednesday. Abdul-Hussein Mirza was quoted by al-Waqt newspaper onas saying that negotiations with Teheran would resume soon. He didn't provide further details. Calls to the National Oil and Gas Authority went unanswered. Bahrain, home to the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, halted import talks in February after criticizing its bigger neighbor for an Iranian official's remarks perceived as a threat to Bahraini sovereignty. Bahrain, unlike nearby Gulf Arab states, has a majority Shi'ite population as Iran does. It needs additional gas to fuel a growing demand for electricity.
