Bank of Israel Governor Fischer to step down after 8 years

Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer informed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday that he will be stepping down from his position on June 30, 2013 after more than eight years.
Fischer did not give a reason for his resignation, but he was scheduled to hold a press conference on Wednesday.
Fischer stated that he was extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve as BOI governor, "especially during a challenging period that included the global economic crisis, a complex geo-political reality, and domestic social issues."
