"Just as Palestinians must not be displaced, the State of Israel is here to stay," US President Barack Obama said in his address to the 68th UN General Assembly.
The US will never compromise its commitment to Israel and its security, as well as its existance as Jewish state, he added. "Peace is just, necessary and possible."
Obama also stressed that the US was committed to the Palestinians' right to live with dignity in their own state, adding that "Israel's safety and security depends on a Palestinian state."
"[Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu released prisoners, reconfirming his commitement to a Palestinian state," Obama said.
"Peace is a powerful tool to defeat extremists and help those willing to build a better future."
