Barak asks Ashkenazi to finish his term as chief of staff

Defense Minister Ehud Barak met with IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi on Tuesday, asking him to remain in his position until the scheduled end of his term in February.
The meeting came in the wake of the appointment of OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen Yoav Galant to replace Ashkenazi.
Barak was also scheduled to meet with chief of general staff candidate OC Northern Command Maj.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkot to request that he remain in the IDF despite being overlooked for the top IDF position.
