Barak says dramatic cuts to defense budget won't happen

Defense Minister Ehud Barak explained on Sunday that while he understands that there needs to be substantial changes within the government in order to facilitate in the socioeconomic change that the social-movement has called for, the Defense Ministry cannot afford any dramatic budget cuts.
The defense minister said that the defense budget has been undergoing 20 years of cuts as per a pre-approved program.
The defense minister said that the government was undertaking the arduous task of reviewing the Trajtenberg Committee's report, and that it would be an "error to turn this [process] into a superficial and populist debate about the defense budget."
"The defense budget will will give its part to a comprehensive plan, but there is no chance of doing this without upholding past agreements."
