Barak says proposed outpost bill 'damages Israel'

Defense Minister Ehud Barak called a proposed bill that would legalize many unauthorized Jewish homes in West Bank settlements and outposts 'damaging' to Israel.
"We are talking about a bill that damages the state of Israel, the government of Israel and the settlement enterprise, and will be used as an effective weapon by Israel's opponents in the international arena and international legal systems," Barak said in a statement.
The bill is a response to a Supreme Court ruling ordering the demolition of houses in the Ulpana outpost, near the Beit El settlement, that were built on private Palestinian property.
"In an advanced, democratic country there is no possibility to legislate a law to invalidate a concrete, conclusive Supreme Court judgement," he continued.
Barak said that any solution must incorporate the supreme court's ruling with provisions to strengthen Beit El, which he called an important settlement.
