Barak to German FM: Iran approaching 'zone of immunity'

Iran is fast approaching the "zone of immunity" in which a military strike will not be able to effectively halt its nuclear program, Defense Minister Ehud Barack told German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on Wednesday.

The two met during Barak's visit to Germany, where the defense minister also me with his German counterpart.

While German Defense Minister Thomas de Maiziere warned Israel Wednesday that a strike on Iran's nuclear facilities carried with it unforeseen and dangerous regional consequences, Barak insisted Wednesday in his meeting with Westerwelle that only Israel could decide its own fate according to its own security needs.

In addition to the Iranian issue, Barak and Westerwelle discussed developments in Syria, and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
