Barghouti calls for protests to force Fatah-Hamas union

Jailed Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti on Sunday called for mass protests to force Fatah-Hamas reconciliation, Palestinian news agency Ma'an reported.

In an interview given from prison, Barghouti, who is serving 5 life sentences for his role in orchestrating the first and second Intifadas, called on "Youth of all persuasions in the West Bank, Gaza, and Diaspora [to] hold sit-ins...until the split is ended."

"Neither history, nor the people, nor martyrs, or prisoners of any party, will forgive any leader who puts obstacles in the way of national reconciliation," Barghouti concluded.

In a separate interview last month, jointly conducted by Channel 10 and Haaretz, Barghouti warned that if the occupation continued there would be a third Intifada, but it would be a popular non-violent uprising.
