Barkat: Hamas 'trying to piggyback' on US support of Fatah

Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat accused Hamas of “trying to piggyback” on the US’s support of Fatah during an appearance on the New York morning news show “Morning Joe,” which aired on MSNBC on Thursday.

Barkat visited New York last week and spoke at the 92nd Street Y, among other appearances.

On the show, he compared Hamas’s rise to power to the way the Nazis came to power democratically in Germany in the 1930s. After Osama bin Laden’s death, Barkat said, “[The US] government has just proven how it deals with terrorists, and Hamas is a terrorist organization.”

Barkat also slammed the idea of dividing Jerusalem, and insisted that the Palestinian Authority agree to the borders of Jerusalem before starting to negotiate.
