Maccabi Rishon Lezion prepared for its decisive Europe Cup encounter later this week with a convincing 74-51 win over Hapoel Holon in the BSL on Sunday, despite playing without injured Chris Wright and Kevin Palmer.
Rishon had hoped not to play on Sunday, approaching Holon last Thursday requesting to postpone the game due to its participation in continental competition. Rishon visits Skyliners Frankfurt in the third and final game of their best-of-three quarterfinal series after handing the Germans their first loss in the competition this year with an 88-84 overtime win in Israel last Wednesday.
Rishon said Holon had initially agreed to move the game to a later date, but following its ultimate refusal to do so angrily announced that it will have to use a makeshift lineup. However, even without Wright and Palmer, it made easy work of Holon, improving to a 13-12 record after outscoring Holon 31-15 in the first quarter and never looking back.
