Bayit Yehudi MK: IDF general's remarks baseless, harm memory of Holocaust

The Israeli army deputy chief of staff incurred the wrath of right-wing nationalists late Wednesday for arguing that present-day Israel was beginning to exhibit signs similar to those evident in 1930s Germany.
Bayit Yehudi MK Bezalel Smotrich took to Twitter and denounced Maj.-Gen. Yair Golan, who made the comments during a Holocaust Remembrance Day speech at Kibbutz Tel Yitzhak in central Israel.
"What frightens me are distorted, baseless comparisons that injure the memory of the Holocaust, particularly when they are made by important people like the deputy chief of staff," Smotrich tweeted.
