Ben-Aryeh turns hostile to case against Liberman

Former ambassador to Belarus Ze’ev Ben-Aryeh threw a curve-ball at the trial against former foreign minister Avigdor Liberman on Thursday, resisting any question which could hurt the latter.
Testimony in the trial of Liberman on charges of fraud and breach of public trust began on Thursday morning. Ben-Aryeh was expected to be the key witness in the case, as he cut a plea bargain deal with the state in the underlying case against him that led to the spin-off case against Liberman.
Ben-Aryeh who previously told police that he had asked Liberman for help for his appointment as ambassador to Latvia, on Thursday say that he did not remember. He also evaded questions on how close he was with Liberman, acting as if he barely knew him, which contradicts his testimony to police.
