Ben Gurion University launches program to bypass psychometric exam

Ben Gurion University of the Negev launched on Sunday a program allowing prospective undergraduate students to apply and possibly get accepted to the university, without having to take the psychometric exam.

Up to 280 students have already registered for the program, which was approved by the Council for Higher Education in cooperation with the National Center for Testing.The curriculum includes preparatory courses such as maths and academic level English and Hebrew, among others.

Students will be tested on each subject and will receive a final grade which they can then submit as an alternative to the psychometric exam in their college application. Graduates of the program will be able to apply to all departments at BGU including medicine, engineering , psychology and humanities, among others.

BGU Rector and initiator of the program, Prof. Zvi HaCohen said on Sunday that the psychometric exam does not advance the applicants on a personal level and only predicts their future academic level of success.

“In contrast, a course of this type is very success because it gives students many tools to prepare them for academic studies and help them become more successful,” he said.
