Benayoun diagnosed with torn Achilles' tendon

The Israeli football federation says Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun has been diagnosed with a torn Achilles' tendon and may be sidelined for "several months."
Benayoun had been included in the Israel squad for its two upcoming European championship qualifiers despite sustaining an injury last month.
However, the Israeli federation said in a statement Wednesday that the injury was worse than had been thought and an MRI scan revealed a torn Achilles' tendon.
Chelsea had said Friday that Benayoun was expected to be back playing again after the international break.
The 30-year-old Israel captain has not played for Chelsea since limping off during the Carling Cup loss to Newcastle on Sept. 22.
