BGU inaugurates support center for students with disabilities

Ben Gurion University of the Negev inaugurated a support center for students with disabilities on Sunday.

The center, which the university was able to established the center after receiving a NIS 1.5 million grant from the National Insurance Institute, will offer ongoing support for students with special needs such as learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, and physical and emotional disabilities.

The support includes personal tutoring, courses, workshops, personal targeted emotional support, a resource library of assistive technologies, mentors, a program to prevent dropping out, and career advisement services, among others.

The center’s staff includes coordinators such as: psychologists, a social worker and an expert in learning processes.

According to chief of administration in the Office of the Dean of Students at BGU Merav Yosef-Solomon, “the goal is for the center to make the studies accessible to special needs students and will serve as an incentive to attract more students with special needs and to increase their number among the student population.”
