BGU to launch joint Israel-Germany degree

Ben Gurion University of the Negev signed an agreement with the college of Jewish studies Die Hochschule für Jüdische Studien in Heidelberg, Germany this week in order to launch the first ever joint Israel-Germany academic program.
The program, which will focus on Israel studies with a specialization in Modern Jewish Life and Culture, will be run both on the BGU Sede Boqer campus and in Heidelberg. It will be open to Israeli and German students and is expected to open in time for the 2014-2015 academic year.
“Next year, we will mark 50 years since the resumption of diplomatic relations between Israel and Germany,” Director of the Ben-Gurion Research Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism, Dr. Paula Kabalo, who was present at the signing, said in a statement, “There is a lot of symbolism in the fact that the university which bears David Ben-Gurion’s name is establishing the first bilateral degree program between Israel and Germany.”
