Biden in Lebanon ahead of key elections

Lebanon's state news agency said Vice President Joe Biden has arrived in the country ahead of key elections that the Iranian-backed militant group Hizbullah could win. The White House said the visit was to reinforce US support for an independent and sovereign Lebanon about two weeks before parliamentary elections. Hizbullah and its allies have a good chance of winning a majority. Biden flew in from Kosovo Friday and is scheduled to meet top leaders and announce assistance to Lebanon's military. Biden is visiting about a month after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, underscoring American concerns about a possible election win by Hizbullah, which Washington labels a terrorist group. Hizbullah already has 14 seats in the 128-seat parliament.
