Bikes may use public transport lanes in Tel Aviv

Starting on Monday, the Ministry of Transportation began allowing bikes and mopeds to ride in the public transportation lanes on Namir Road and Ibn Gvirol Street in Tel Aviv.  As signs along the road were updated, it marked the beginning of a six-month trial period.
Up to this point, the lanes were exclusively for use by buses and taxis between the hours of 5 AM and 10 PM on weekdays. If it proves successful, Transportation Minister Israel Katz said similar allowances will be made on other main roads in the city.
On Namir Road, the change will be effective from its southernmost point at the intersection with Arlozorov Street and up to Glilot Junction in the north. On Ibn Gvirol Street, the change is effective from the intersection with Marmorek Street in the southern part of the roadway up to the intersection with Shimon Hatarsi Street.
