Bill against 'hit and runs' passes first Knesset reading

A bill that would give rights to victims of "hit and run attacks" passed its first reading in the Knesset on Monday.

The bill, proposed by Kadima MK Ze'ev Bielski, would allow for victims of such attacks and their family members to be involved in every step of legal proceedings against the perpetrator. They would also have the right to offer their personal opinions during the judicial process, including in instances of plea bargain and pardon request.

MK Bielski said Monday that "The crime of abandonment is a sick phenomenon in Israeli society and we must do everything possible to make it stop."
