Bill to help returning Israelis get health care advances

The Knesset on Wednesday passed a preliminary reading of a bill that would enable the National Insurance Institute to provide immediate health care to returning Israelis.
According to the current law, returning Israelis are not eligible for medical coverage for as many months as the years they were abroad, up to a maximum of six months unless they pay a hefty fee.
The bill would encourage the NII to grant returning Israelis immediate coverage without a fee. MKs Yoel Hasson (Kadima) and Carmel Shama (Likud), who co-chair the Knesset's lobby for enhancing western aliyah, said they submitted the bill in order to remove a key obstacle to aliyah for many families.
